A series on Oakland Cont

It is winter in Oakland
but the sky is clearing
over the wetlands
where the geese
are clear for landings
and take-offs
on stretches of earth
that will be gone by summer.
Fleeting
It is all so temporary
in the presence of beauty,
the succulents drip
the twinkle of dew on a lazy stamen-
the morning sun, promising hope.

A series on Oakland

Calm down
and write another poem,
you should be inspired.
Remember the rogue cilantro field
that grows in a vacant lot
you picked a few stems,
in disbelief-
No weeds, no clovers
Just fertile soil,
Cilantro aromatics.
That evening,
you got cold sitting by the bonfire
still we relaxed there,
vibing off the cilantro fragrance
like felines do with catnip
The embers spark-
friends laugh deeply,
freely & genuine
And you see the complexity
Behind nirvana-
And every smile is as unique
As the pattern of the flames.
